School overall has never been a strong suit of mine. Right out of high school, I attended a community college for an associate’s in Criminal Justice. It was just a way for me to waste my time and money. That’s when I decided to change paths and go to the Army. After training, I re-attended another community college for an Associate of Computer Science. Again, I could not finish this time due to a lack of motivation and bad timing.
After building confidence in my abilities, I was still wary of attending school. However, my co-worker told me about Western Governors University, a self-paced school, and how you could achieve your degree in half the time. Only when he had called the school for me and handed me the phone did I take it seriously.
Registration is one of the smoothest processes compared to other schools. The mentors are there to help you, not just to collect a paycheck. Once I started my classes, they were different, unlike other schools. Though you need the motivation to make yourself do the work, this is what keeps me going: The ability to continue to progress at your pace. You will be able to build as much momentum forward as you can handle. I have only been enrolled with this school for about eleven months, and I have earned 134 CUs and completed all classes for my MS and BS. I completed my Cybersecurity program before my estimated date of January 2023. So Why WGU? Well, I work best at my pace, like many self-learners. What better way to save money and get the best education that fits our personalities? Especially for introverted individuals such as myself.
